XML Web services continue to receive quite a bit of attention. Is it yet
another over hyped technology destined for failure or will it revolutionize
computing as we know it? Well, the answer lies somewhere in between. Join
Scott as he demystifies the role XML Web services will play going forward.
"Scott hits the nail on the head with clear and concise coverage of
topics that all Web service developers should know about." Jeff Prosise,
Cofounder and Author, Wintellect, praising Scott's book on XML Web services. |

GotDotNET - BUILDING UPON THE FRAMEWORK |
| |
|
| |
 |
The key to opening up doors with Visual Studio .NET, including Visual Basic
.NET and Visual C# .NET, is understanding the .NET Framework. Each month Roy presents a short technical topic of interest for us on how to use
the .NET Framework. He shows us how to get the most of it with code samples
for both Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET developers. |

"Jagged
Arrays in VB.NET and C#"
By
Roy Ogborn, Orbonyx Corporation
Developers already know how and when to use multi-dimensional arrays. These
rectangular arrays have a brand new cousin in .NET called the Jagged
Array. Not only can Jagged Arrays contain non-rectangular data elements,
they may also combine arrays of different data types, such as an array of
integers and an array of strings, etc., into one Jagged Array unit.
While VB.NET has direct built-in support for the Jagged Array, it's
existence comes directly from the System.Array namespace.
Roy is a seasoned
applications developer who has been professionally architecting and
developing enterprise grade VB.NET and C# object oriented n-tier
applications for clients for well over a year and has been otherwise
immersed in .NET for over two years. He's also provided .NET guidance to
both individuals and development teams who are embarking on .NET and object
oriented development projects.
In this session, Roy will show us how to
create and use Jagged Arrays and, time providing, he'll show how he has used
one to provide ViewState for a TreeView
control in a live production .NET Web Application. Please
join Roy on a crooked look at "Jagged Arrays in VB.NET and C#" |

Select a Speaker and Topic |
| |
|
| |
Tell us WHO YOU WANT to present and WHAT
YOU WANT to present!
|
| |
There has been assembled a
stellar group of speakers who have years of experience as developers,
authors and presenters. All of them are passionate about how .NET creates
new opportunities for developers, and love to share their views. Many of
them are leaders or participants in their local user groups and look forward
to the opportunity to present nationally and internationally.
A key benefit of membership is
the opportunity to have nationally known .NET speakers present at our local
user group meetings! We are planning now for a probable presentation date of
February, 2003.
WE NEED YOUR HELP -- SELECT WHO TO REQUEST TO SPEAK TO US
AND THEIR TOPIC!

Read through the pages of speakers available (you
may be impressed).

Select the top three speakers you want in order
(first, second, third selection choice).

Select the topic you want to hear from each one

Indicate comments and your preference for
presentation difficulty level, if any.

Come to our September 23 meeting and give
your selections to member volunteer

Kathleen's Tip
|
| |
|
| |
During our August
meeting, Kathleen Dollard, provided us this great tip for what seems to be a
"missing feature" in Visual Studio .NET:
Enable Intellisense in Visual Studio .NET for your XSLT v1.0 documents.
VS.Net does not ship with the XSLT schema needed to enable Intellisense for
your XSLT v1.0 documents. With the files contained in the zip file below ,
you will be able to obtain full Intellisense support. Also included is a
replacement for the xslt file if you prefer using the xsl:prefix in your
xslt documents.
See
http://www.gotdotnet.com/userarea/keywordsrch.aspx?keyword=Fesersoft
See the tip by looking down the page at: Fesersoft VS.NET XSLT v1.0 Schema
See Kathleen's presentation to our group on October, 28:
